The new Letters and Sounds six phase teaching programme is designed to help teach children reading and spelling by developing their speaking and listening skills and teaching phonics. It focuses on developing the word recognition skills that are essential for children to decode and encode words accurately and emphasises the importance of using multi-sensory activities to do this.
